V&A Latinx celebration takes over UCL East

3 October 2024

Artists, DJs and performers turned Marshgate into a 7-storey celebration of creative east London talent from the Latinx community on Saturday night in the first of the V&A's 'back2back' series of events ahead of the opening of the V&A East Museum and Storehouse next year.

As the sun set over Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, hundreds of visitors enjoyed a rich and varied programme of activities titled InBetween: a Latinx Takeover, from dance workshops and performances to photography, film screenings, interactive art installations, DJ sets and spoken word.

With support from UCL East staff, the V&A team and a cast of brilliant artists and creatives created a massive party atmosphere over five hours, with guests exploring the building and discovering creativity at every turn, topped off by authentic Brazilian cuisine served in our restaurant by our mega imaginative campus catering team.

The V&A 'back2back' event was the first in a series of 'takeovers' of spaces planned around east London ahead of V&A East opening two sites on the Park next year.

Opening at Here East in 2025, V&A East Storehouse will be a unique new museum experience opening up the V&A collection to everyone. Alongside our other East Bank partners Sadler's Wells, BBC, and London College of Fashion, UAL on Stratford Waterfront, V&A East Museum will celebrate making and creativity’s power to bring change.

V&A East builds on the V&A's long-standing heritage in east London and the back2back event was made possible through support from the Terra Foundation for American Art and co-curated with colleagues, artists, designers and creatives from the Americas and their diasporas in London.
