UCL East campus hosts Cabinet Office minister speech

10 December 2024

All eyes were on our UCL East campus this week as journalists, thinktanks, and representatives from local government and civic organisations headed to our Marshgate building as the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Pat McFadden MP, spoke on reforming the state.

In front of lobby correspondents and a range of invited guests and UCL staff and students, the speech invited local authorities, unions, business and academic institutions to get involved in the debate.

Also present were Cabinet Office Parliamentary Secretary Georgia Gould MP, the former leader of Camden Borough Council and Jim McMahon MP, who is Minister for Local Government and English Devolution.

The event was hosted at UCL East in conjunction with the UCL Policy Lab, whose research has shown that people living in the UK want to see changes to the quality and nature of public services.

Following the speech, Pat McFadden joined a round table discussion at UCL East with key stakeholders, chaired by UCL Policy Lab Director Marc Stears.

You can read the speech in full on the Cabinet Office website, as well as reflections on the event from the UCL Policy Lab and a write-up of the event from one of our UCL Student Storytellers.
