New EAST Careers Week for east London students

1 February 2021

UCL and its East Bank partners - BBC, UCL, UAL's London College of Fashion, V&A and Sadler's Wells - are offering local Year 10 – 13 students an exciting online programme as part of National Careers Week, from 1 to 5 March.

Schedule of sessions for EAST careers week 2021

The online sessions include behind-the-scenes virtual tours, getting insider information on how to perfect your portfolio and learning all about the different jobs involved in engineering. The week also includes courses for students that are keeping their options open with workshops like ‘Speaking about your strengths’ and ‘The Hustle Guide podcast’.

All Year 10-13 students living in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest are invited to take part in these online sessions, which will be delivered by the East Bank partners as well as more local partners including Here East, Liverpool Media Academy, Staffordshire University, and Art Clubbers.

UCL East's constructors of the Marshgate building, Mace, will also be delivering a session to introduce students to careers in construction - busting the myth that all involve wearing a hard hat!

Most sessions will have an element of building students' communication skills and boosting their confidence to approach the world of work.

The UCL Special Collections team will deliver a one-off workshop to help students identify their strengths and present themselves to prospective new employers.

Meanwhile, UCL Engineering will encourage students to explore the vast range of careers “in” and “from” engineering. The series of "This is Engineering" career sessions will include panel discussions with experts and Q&A with undergraduate and postgraduate Engineering students, for 16-18 year old pupils.
