Constructors Mace and Vinci help renew garden area for local community centre

1 December 2020

Our constructors on UCL East, Mace and Vinci, have recently taken part in a volunteering activity with the Glyn Hopkin Abbey Hub, part of the Ambition Aspire Achieve group.

Volunteers at the AAA project

In autumn 2020, Mace and Vinci took part in a volunteering week to help the Glyn Hopkin Abbey Hub community centre to renew their garden. The community centre supports children and young people most in need, including those with disabilities and additional needs.

Over the week, the team of volunteers from Mace and Vinci, as well as Mace's sub-contractors Maylim and Dornan, cleaned and restored the garden to create a space for all the children to enjoy and have access to.

They replaced old sleepers with new raised beds; painted the fences, tables and benches; erected two new greenhouses and a chicken shed; and created a pathway to make the garden more accessible.

Kevin Jenkins, founder of Ambition Aspire Achieve, was thankful of the fantastic support they received from the volunteers:

"Sensational, brilliant, transformational - there are no words adequate enough to express our sincere gratitude for everyone's hard work, kindness and generosity at Abbey Hun throughout the week.

"This will make a real difference for the disadvantaged, vulnerable and at risk children and young people we work with - and thanks to the volunteers' hard work in creating a magnificent path, the children who are wheelchair users or have mobility difficulties can now access the entire site!"
