Call for student artists in residence now open

21 August 2020

For the second year running, the UCL East Programme is looking to appoint a student from the Slade School of Fine Art or Bartlett School of Architecture, to join us as a Student in Residence for a 12 month period.

UCL student in art studio

This opportunity is open to any student at the Slade School of Fine Art or Bartlett's School of Architecture, working in any creative discipline.

There are no preconceived ideas about how they will work or the outcomes they will produce. Indeed, the UCL East Project Team is inviting the appointed student to explore their own creative practice while they learn about the development process and reflect outwards their experiences through creative means. The student will be welcome to observe and offer new perspectives and a creative interpretation of the UCL East development, as well as considering and investigating the materiality of the UCL East campus.

Being the second year means that the student selected to work on the project will be further informed and supported by the shared knowledge and experiences of the two Year 1 artists in residence. The current students in residence, Seren Metcalf and Jacob Blackaller, are both from the Slade School of Fine Art and have spent their last year observing, commenting and creatively reflecting upon UCL East.

This project is supported through the overarching public art programme currently under development by UCL Culture.
