Public engagement award winners unveil new toilet at Spitalfields City Farm

24 May 2019

Dr. Lena Ciric and Dr. Tse-Hui Teh have unveiled a vacuum flushing compost toilet at Spitalfields City Farm, Tower Hamlets.

Dr. Tse-Hui Teh shows diagram which display how much less water is used by their new toilet.

Spitalfields City Farm now has a brand new vacuum flushing compost toilet thanks to the research, engagement and commitment of two UCL Academics. The toilet, which uses a small percentage of water compared to other models, will support Spitalfields Farm's agenda of reducing waste and improving environmental education, whilst also providing a vital research tool for the academics involved.

Dr. Lena Ciric and the Dr. Tse-Hui Teh from Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering and The Bartlett School of Planning, who were recently awarded a Provost's award for public engagement, were present to cut the ribbon at the official opening ceremony last weekend (19th May). Hear more about their project in the short video below.
