Creating Connections East in Bethnal Green

The next installment of Creating Connections will take place at Oxford House in Bethnal Green in partnership with Queen Mary University of London and the UK2070 Commission on the 10th June.

Creating Connections is a regular networking event organised by University College London (UCL) to connect university staff and students together with representatives of the local community. The next installment on the 10th June will see the Community Engagement Team work in partnership with with the UK2070 Commission, an independent inquiry into social and economic inequality in the UK.

Creating Connections brings together UCL staff and postgraduate students with representatives from community organisations, charities, residents’ groups, social enterprises and statutory organisations, with the aim of finding ways to work together. Organised by UCL’s Public Engagement Unit, Students’ Union UCL’s Volunteering Service  the event will also working with Oxford House in Bethnal Green, who will host the event and Queen Mary University of London who will also signpost staff and students to the event to make more links ahead of their event  on the 15th and 16th June: the Tower Hamlets Festival of Communities.

If you have an idea for how UCL and London’s communities can work more closely together, or are just curious about how to get started, come along. There will be lots of opportunities to meet people with whom you can collaborate, and hear about successful projects that have already taken place. The evenings are a mix of themed discussions in small groups with more informal networking reception afterwards. Creating Connections East is an opportunity to network with people from London universities and the Voluntary Community Sector - for this event we’re focusing on inequality and its effects. This is to tie in with the UK2070 Commission, which is launching its first report in June, which sets out the inequalities in the UK and proposes a National Action Programme.
