UG Internship - The Giant Robot’s Handbook: creating a Digital Twin of UCL East

A six-week paid summer opportunity designed to widen participation for students to explore master’s study, build confidence, and gain direct experience of academic research and practice at UCL East.

Supervisor: Prof. Duncan Wilson

Sensors are all around us, in our buildings and in our streets. This project will focus on exploring how we can make the invisible visible. Using our UCL East buildings as a living lab, this project will develop a virtual guide that allows students to “see inside the wall” to understand how the building works.

Using digital twin technologies, real time data will be used to show how the building works to reveal the complexity of living inside a giant robot.

Key components of this project will be creating the 3D environment in which to tell the story, developing narratives around how the building works through conversations with facilities managers, making use of real time data from the building and focusing on how to communicate the information as a novel building guide.

An interest in technology and a desire to learn about coding is required. Coding skills are helpful but not essential.

You will be working with staff within the CASA MSc Connected Environments team and members of the UCL East living landscape working group.
