A six-week paid summer opportunity designed to widen participation for students to explore master’s study, build confidence, and gain direct experience of academic research and practice at UCL East.
Supervisor: Dr.Prospero Taroni-Junior
As industries face increasing pressure to reduce carbon footprints, this internship proposal focuses on contributions to advanced materials science research developed at the UCL Institute for Materials Discovery, aimed to accelerating the transition to a circular economy through development and characterisation of high-performance eco-friendly materials and processes.
Under the guidance of a vibrant team of materials scientists, the intern will be introduced to advanced wet chemistry processes and utilise advanced analytical techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), and x-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) to assess microstructure integrity and thermal stability of these advanced materials while correlating to the processes. A core objective is to optimise the manufacturing process to ensure these materials meet rigorous industrial standards for automotive or packaging applications.
The internship would take place in synchrony with the start of MSc projects at the UCL East Wet Lab, which span from Term 3 to Summer Term. The intern would be working with the academic supervisors alongside MSc students in a vibrant community, which also include a healthy number of PGTAs assisting the work.
