The east London Imprint: Past, Present, Future is an exhibition showcasing prints created by students aged 15–18 from schools and colleges across east London, as part of the UCL East Printmaking Programme. Working with mentors from the Slade School of Fine Art, participants explored drawing, mark-making and drypoint etching, developing original works inspired by their surroundings, experiences, and ideas.

About the exhibition

This exhibition explores how past, present and future are connected through the creativity of young people in east London

Students reflect on the histories, places and communities that shape their environment today, while also responding to their everyday experiences and imagining future possibilities. The works on display offer personal and collective perspectives on identity, place and belonging.

Alongside these works, contributions from those who have supported and shaped the programme over time offer further reflections on how east London might continue to evolve.

UCL200

Presented as part of UCL200, celebrating 200 years of University College London, the exhibition connects to wider themes of origins, impact, community and futures.

Like UCL, a university that was founded on openness and solving great challenges, these works consider how creativity and collaboration shape a better future.

Bringing together contributions from students and those who have shaped the programme, the exhibition reflects a shared investment in imagining east London’s future.

These works form a collective portrait of east London, with its diverse communities, environments, and futures being imagined.
