Spaces and facilities
The UCL East Campus is a unique combination of state-of-the-art research centres, teaching spaces, study areas and living accommodation.
Our buildings are open to the the public to enjoy, with a programme of exhibitions, events and activities for all. Through our partnerships and research, we work with communities around east London, and open our campus spaces for community use.

Book our spaces
Some of the spaces available at UCL East are available for hire to all UCL staff (whether based at UCL East or not) and to partners and the community.

One Pool Street
About the building
One Pool Street comprises three floors of research and teaching facilities topped by two towers of accommodation for more than 500 students.
The design of One Pool Street encourages innovative academic programming, as well as a range of events and activities. Performances, exhibitions, workshops and lectures contribute to a lively and creative learning atmosphere – all designed for the enjoyment of the community as well as students and staff.

One Pool Street at UCL East
The first building to open at the UCL East campus, One Pool Street comprises three floors of research and teaching facilities topped by two towers of accommodation.

The Atrium and Hear Now artwork
The atrium showcases the striking Hear Now artwork featuring megaphones and frying pans, giving a visual shout-out to the working class women of the East London Federation of Suffragettes (ELFS)

One Pool Street Café
A speciality coffee shop, café and meeting point for anyone in search of something delicious

One Pool Street Cinema
A 160-seat cinema doubling as a lecture theatre

The Urban Room and Memory Workshop
A practice-based, multi-purpose space for debate and engagement around questions of urban living, past, present and future

The Slade Studio
A flexible art studio space, used by undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, for partnership meetings and events, and for outreach activity

One Pool Street student accommodation
A state of the art, sustainable, catered hall – offering 200+ ensuite rooms

Roof Top Garden
A first floor rooftop garden, used as a 'living lab', as well as the Park around the campus

City Mill Skate
City Mill Skate is a public skatepark created from a research project with local skaters
Marshgate
About the building
Our UCL East campus building called Marshgate features predominantly academic spaces, but also includes retail, community and engagement uses.
At the heart of the building is a central atrium that is openly accessible to encourage inclusivity and community engagement, with the use of 'Fluid Zones' at ground and first floor level to draw people into the building. Floor space above these levels has been designed to encourage collaboration and engagement between academic uses through largely open plan and circulatory spaces.
Marshgate was awarded Building Magazine Project of the Year, one of the top accolades at the 2024 Building Awards.

Marshgate at UCL East
Marshgate is our second building to open on UCL East campus. It features predominantly academic spaces, but also includes a cafe & refectory, and community and engagement uses.

Marshgate Atrium and Gaia Globe
The atrium which showcases the imposing Gaia globe and programme of activities, designed for visitors to ‘see the Earth as if from space.

Marshgate Atrium and Trēow of Time installation
Marshgate Atrium and Trēow of Time, a hyper-real installation inspired by 3D video gaming and time spent between the natural and virtual realms.

Marshgate Café and Refectory
A chance to join us in our food hall and grab a dish from one of our brand new and exciting brands

The Culture Lab
A space for students, artists and community groups to work with collections and archives to creatively share with each other and the public what matters to them through teaching, exhibitions and events

Institute of Making
A multidisciplinary research club for those interested in the made world

About how UCL East came into being.
UCL East: from concept to reality
UCL East is our largest single expansion since UCL was founded nearly 200 years ago. The first phase of our UCL East campus development is complete with our two main buildings now open - One Pool Street and Marshgate.
