Study Transport at UCL

UCL offers four transport-related Masters programmes, all of which can be studied full- or part-time. In addition, any module within the Masters programmes can be taken as a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) option.

 

 

 

MSc in Transport

This Masters programme is delivered by UCL in association with Imperial College London. The over-arching purposes are:

  • To provide a systematic understanding of the causes and motivations of personal travel and goods movement, and of the means by which movement takes place
  • To provide a grounding in techniques for analysing transport problems and developing, and implementing policies and measures for resolving such problems
  • To develop appreciation of the importance of and methods for evaluating transport projects, plans and policies, taking into account the need for stakeholder participation and recognising the political, social, commercial and financial issues involved

The full time programme is taken over 12 months, with a single entry point per year at the beginning of October. Part-time options are:

  • One day/week over three years
  • Two days/week over two years
  • Term release

MSc in Transport with Business Management

This Masters programme is delivered by UCL in association with Imperial College London. The over-arching purposes are:

  • To provide a systematic understanding of the causes and motivations of personal travel and goods movement, and of the means by which movement takes place
  • To provide a grounding in techniques for analysing transport problems and developing, and implementing policies and measures for resolving such problems
  • To develop appreciation of the importance of and methods for evaluating transport projects, plans and policies, taking into account the need for stakeholder participation and recognising the political, social, commercial and financial issues involved

The full time programme is taken over 12 months, with a single entry point per year at the beginning of October. Part-time options are:

  • One day/week over three years
  • Two days/week over two years
  • Term release

The business management option involve 120 contact hours of study replacing an equivalent amount from the core transport course. The add-on modules are designed to provide the ability to think about the business side of civil engineering, addressing key principles of accounting, micreconomics, business law, human resource management and project management, and to complement the core technical MSc programme.

MSc in Transport with Sustainable Development

This Masters programme is delivered by UCL in association with Imperial College London. The over-arching purposes are:

  • To provide a systematic understanding of the causes and motivations of personal travel and goods movement, and of the means by which movement takes place
  • To provide a grounding in techniques for analysing transport problems and developing, and implementing policies and measures for resolving such problems
  • To develop appreciation of the importance of and methods for evaluating transport projects, plans and policies, taking into account the need for stakeholder participation and recognising the political, social, commercial and financial issues involved

The full time programme is taken over 12 months, with a single entry point per year at the beginning of October. Part-time options are:

  • Two days/week over two years
  • Term release

The sustainable development option involve 120 contact hours of study replacing an equivalent amount from the core transport course. The add-on modules are designed to provide basic skills to incorporate the concepts of sustainable development into all the stages of an engineering project's development. It is suitable for those who wish to direct their career towards issues of development and redevelopment, especially in the provision of infrastructure, and its renovation and renewal.

MSc in Transport & City Planning

 The MSc in Transport and City Planning is a one-year ful-time or two-to-five-year modular/flexible programme. It draws on the latest thinking and debates in transport and urban planning, providing an interdisciplinary consideration of transport planning as part of the development of the sustainable city.

Core themes are:

  • Urban Transport Planning
  • Sustainable cities
  • Investing in Mega Projects

To accompany these, students can select from a wide range of relevant modules offered by the Bartlet School of Planning and three other departments.
