Daniel Semrau awarded a Photonics Society Graduate Student Fellowship

Daniel Semrau, PhD student and member of the Institute of Communications and Connected Systems (ICCS), was recently awarded the prestigious Photonics Society Graduate Student Fellowship 2018.

The IEEE Photonics Society scheme provides Graduate Fellowships to outstanding Society student members pursuing graduate education within the Society field of interest. Daniel’s research focuses on the modelling and mitigation of nonlinear effects in next-generation ultra-wideband optical communications. 

The recipients were honoured during the Awards Banquet held at the 2018 IEEE Photonics Conference in Reston, Virginia, USA, on 1st October 2018.

Daniel is supervised by the TRANSNET Programme PI Polina Bayvel and Co-I Robert Killey. On being awarded the fellowship Daniel said:

“I feel very honoured receiving the IEEE Graduate Student Fellowship award. This is an exceptional acknowledgement of my academic record and it will help me pursue my future goals as an early career researcher. I would like to sincerely thank my supervisors Dr. R. Killey and Prof. P. Bayvel for their wholehearted support of me and my work.”
