Launch of the Therapeutic Acceleration Support (TAS) Fund Call 9 - NOW OPEN

2 March 2022

Therapeutic Acceleration Support (TAS) Fund Call 9, aiming to accelerate the transition from discovery science to the early stages of therapeutic development through responsive and flexible funding to support preliminary translational work, is now open for UCL applicants!

The Translational Research Office are pleased to announce the launch of the UCL Therapeutic Acceleration Support (TAS) Call 9!

  • Application submission deadline: 29th April 2022 (UK time)

Supported by the MRC Confidence in Concept scheme, Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund and the three Biomedical Research Centres (BRC) affiliated with UCL (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) BRC, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) BRC and Moorfields BRC, TAS aims to accelerate the transition from discovery science to the early stages of therapeutic development by providing responsive and flexible funding to support preliminary translational work.

The scheme expects to typically fund individual projects (UCL researchers only) in the range of £60-80k, directly incurred costs only, for up to 12 months. Projects seeking lower amounts will be considered.

Awards must commence within 2 months of the award being issued. All projects must be completed within 1 year of the start date and/or in line with overarching grant conditions of funders that support the TAS scheme.  Please ensure that your project is scheduled accordingly, and that the timeline is appropriate to the objectives and milestones set out.

The scheme typically supports projects which lie within the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 2-4 (more information on this can be found in the application guidance document). The committee welcomes UCL applications from all career stages, from Early Career Researchers and applicants seeking to establish individual research careers, to established Principal Investigators.

  • Applications with an industry partner are strongly encouraged.
  • Before applying please read the Application Guidance to ensure that your project is in remit.  Applications that do not conform to the brief will not be considered for funding.

Enquiries about the scheme and completed application forms should be sent to Helen Cooksley (h.cooksley@ucl.ac.uk) in the Translational Research Office. Once confirmed, the TAS Call 9 panel will be available to view on the TRO funding opportunities page
