UCL’s extensive building and refurbishment programme - Transforming UCL – is well under way. This is about creating amazing, inspiring, sustainable spaces that meet UCL's world-class aspirations and commitment to academic excellence, collaborative learning and innovation.
Why Transforming UCL?
UCL has a history of innovate thinking since it's foundation in 1826. Our 2034 strategy sets out our mission to be London’s Global University – leading the way in radical thinking; influencing and changing the world for the benefit of humanity.
We can’t do this without a world-leading campus to support our diverse academic community. With our students at our heart, we are creating spaces to push the boundaries of our aspirations, ideas, research and innovations.
Our central London estate is unparalleled in the sector in its size, scope and architectural heritage. Our development opportunity at UCL East secures our campus of the future, again, unrivalled in its vision for collaborative, multi-platform living and learning spaces for the next century and beyond.
With this comes challenge and opportunity in equal measure. We are:
• Transforming UCL into a world leading campus
• Optimising and progressing our buildings and spaces
• Working with our community to design our campus of the future
• Delivering sustainability and inclusion to future-proof our estate
Where we are: the 2019-2024 programme
Transforming UCL is over halfway through its ten year £1.25 billion investment. Having completed a raft of major award-winning new developments and renovations in Bloomsbury, we currently have three major areas of construction project underway:
Alongside these incredible developments we are ensuring that our estate is the best that it can be, optimising our buildings and assets through a rigorous programme of incisive, targeted improvement works to raise the quality of UCL’s teaching and learning spaces across the board
It is hard to single out even a few of our iconic projects for special attention. Please take a look around this site at our project pages, case studies and news articles, or, better still come and visit our campus if you can.
