One Pool Street

Along with Marshgate, One Pool Street is part of UCL East, a new world-class UCL campus located on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Pool Street West

1 October 2020

One Pool Street - UCL East Phase 1

Opening in 2022, the first building to become operational on the new campus will embody innovation and inclusivity. Here, researchers, students, local communities and industry will collaborate on local and global challenges, and develop solutions that will build a fairer, more sustainable world.

We will co-create solutions to the biggest global challenges facing future living. We will work across areas as diverse as manufacturing, advanced propulsion, robotics, artificial intelligence, mobility, disability, planetary sustainability, wellbeing, urbanisation, finance, business, art and culture.

State of the art facilities

Labs, teaching and research spaces will sit next to common areas with informal seating and open spaces, where people can meet to collaborate and socialise.

Our labs will give students and academics the latest tools to conduct experiments, whether chemical and archaeological, or mechanical and computational.

One Pool Street will be home to a number of academic centres and spaces, including the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub), currently based at Here East. Born out of the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the GDI Hub is a research and practice centre that has been driving disability innovation for a fairer world for the past three years already.

Next to it, the UCL Slade School of Fine Arts, the Bartlett’s Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis and the new Culture Lab will have their own, brand-new spaces, as well as sharing labs and design studios to enhance collaboration.

A building for the community

Designed to encourage the creation of innovative academic programming, One Pool Street will also offer exciting, accessible spaces for events and activities that will be open to all.

The performances, exhibitions, workshops and public lectures held here will contribute to a lively and creative learning atmosphere and will open UCL’s doors in completely new ways, with research and educational programmes that the local community can become involved in.

Key features in the building will include a cinema, doubling as a lecture and event space, as well as cafés and public spaces.

Rooms with a view

Our new accommodation will be among the best available in London.

The two towers on either side of the podium, rising above a landscaped roof terrace, will be home to over 500 students, with accommodation designed as clusters of bedrooms sharing kitchen and living areas. Each cluster will also have a common room with three-way views across Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
