Doctoral Colloquium 2022

We are holding a Doctoral Colloquium for PhD students whose research relates to TIDAL N+ themes and objectives. This will be in person at UCL in London, on 13th September 2022.

Aims of the Doctoral Colloquium

  • Share experiences
  • Peer support
  • Networking
  • Practise presenting and get supportive feedback
  • Insights into the PhD and post-PhD journey: we plan to have two or three guests who will give informal presentations about their own journeys from PhD to where they are now: a clinician, someone working in industry and an academic researcher.

Who is it for?

  • PhD students at UK institutions that qualify for EPSRC funding (including most universities and some other HE institutions and research institutes), whose research relates to TIDAL N+ themes and objectives.

When and where is it?

  • Tuesday 13th September 2022 from 12.00 midday to 5.00 pm.
  • There will be a sandwich lunch provided from midday onwards, with an opportunity for peer networking.
  • The sessions will kick-off at 1.00 pm, so don’t worry if you can’t quite get there for 12.00 midday.
  • It will be taking place at UCL, London, Bloomsbury campus. Building/room tbc. We will be sending out full details in w/c 5th September.
  • The nearest Network Rail station is London Euston, which is walking distance from the UCL Bloomsbury Campus

Travel expenses

  • For PhD students from UK universities and other HE institutions that qualify for EPSRC funding, we can reimburse certain travel expenses:
  • We can reimburse 2nd class rail travel expenses from within the UK and taxi fares up to £25 each way to/from your home train station if no public transport is available at the time you need to leave/return.
  • If you are disabled and need to get a taxi from Euston Station to UCL, you will also be able to claim for this.
  • We will not reimburse air travel, petrol/electric car charging, or parking costs other than in exceptional circumstances. We would consider reimbursing these costs where refusing to do so would disadvantage an individual (not merely inconvenience them). If you believe you have a good reason why you must travel by air or car, please state your reasons when you respond to this invitation.
  • Receipts for all expenses must be provided.

  • If you would like to attend, please complete this online form ASAP and no later than Thursday 18th August 2022.
  • We hope that we will be able to offer a place to everyone who wants to attend, but can’t guarantee this.
  • We will confirm by Tuesday 23rd August whether you have a place.
  • Please do not book travel before we have confirmed that you have a place.
