Meet the current Faculty lead for UCL Institute of Education (IOE), view current and past projects and interventions.

Elke is a seasoned education leader with over 20 years of experience across academic and professional services roles. She is deeply committed to equality and inclusion, focussing on dismantling barriers that hinder access and success for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Throughout her career, Elke has led strategic change initiatives to improving the student experience, developing robust systems and processes to ensure every learner can access the tools and opportunities they need to flourish. Her work is defined by a passion for meaningful transformation and a dedication to cultivating inclusive environments where all students are empowered to succeed. 

Elke has been a Student Success Faculty Lead since September 2024.

Current work

  • Conceptualise and support the development of a live student performance dashboard to allow for timely support for students 

  • Review post-induction tutorial and student support needs for undergraduate students 

  • Drive initiatives to remove barriers to learning, in particular for students with physical disabilities 

  • Develop initiatives across the faculty to increase the number of UG home students

Status

Explore exisiting outreach activities across the faculty to increase the number of UG Home students, asthe current numbers are very low.

Staff initiatives
  • Summarise the exisiting activities
  • Develop a more comprehensive / targeted outreach plan with marketing.
  • Build a closer relationship with feeder schools and colleges, so there will be less need to make contextual offers.
  • Hope to have higher numbers of UK Home students.

  • Run training as a part of staff induction, share the good practice conference.

Previous work*

  • Creation of multiple student and staff focus groups to explore attitudes around race and inclusion throughout the institute
  • Creation of a new inclusive flagship UG module in the IoE
  • Development of a faculty BAME awarding task and finish group
  • Established permanent staff and student EDI steering committee
  • Design of a students’ portrait project to showcase the work and inclusivity of the student body
  • BME student participation in curriculum review
