Meet our Summer Interns

Becky Gordon - Research Intern Route

I’m a Biomedical Engineering undergraduate, interested in assistive technologies and disability design. I am passionate about disability justice, and how the social model of disability applies across design and engineering.

A big believer in ‘Nothing about us without us,’ I take this to say disabled people need to be in the room for any design process. This can be achieved through two important routes: educating designers about disability, so that they can understand the need for, and advocate for the inclusion of, disabled people in their processes; and ensuring disabled people have access to the education and opportunities needed to meaningfully contribute to design & engineering. This project aims to contribute to the latter; exploring disabled students’ experiences of group work, which forms a large part of engineering education.

So far, this programme has been an incredible learning opportunity, having given me the chance to connect with some fascinating and like-minded people and take professional development opportunities catered to my interests.

Mubaraq Akinosi - Part-time Project Intern (Data Analysis and Research)

I'm a Law undergraduate at UCL with a deep interest in identity, belonging, and equity within higher education. As the creator of the Black@UCL report, I explored how culturally responsive programming can enhance the student experience and improve access to opportunity. Originally from Stoke-on-Trent and of Nigerian heritage, I bring lived experience and insight to my work. My goal is to drive change through storytelling, data, and human-centred design—building systems where every student feels seen and supported.
