Celebrating our 2026 Education Award winners

We announced this year's UCL Education Award winners at a celebration event on 10 June. Congratulations to all the winners and everyone nominated!

The Education Awards recognise outstanding staff and students who go the extra mile to support learning at UCL. In our Bicentenary year, more than 300 colleagues, students and guests gathered at the UCL Institute of Education to celebrate these achievements. 

Run in partnership by our Higher Education Development and Support Institute and Students’ Union UCL, the Education Awards bring together the:  

• Provost Education Awards (staff nominated by staff)  
• Student Choice Awards (run by Students’ Union UCL, recognising staff nominated by students)   
• Academic Rep of the Year Awards (Reps nominated by students and staff). 

Our nominees and winners exemplify educational excellence and they will inspire many through their exciting and innovative practice. Thank you for all you do to support your students to learn and make the most of their UCL education.”

Provost Education Award winners   

The Awards panel considered 43 individual nominations and 27 team nominations. The winners are: 

• Innovating: Mohammad Hassannezhad, Mathematical and Physical Sciences 
• Celebrating education: Anna Garnett, Library, Culture, Collections and Open Science, and Jana Small, Engineering.  
• Enhancing belonging: Sarah Rolph, Emmanuel Osuteye, Sara Shafiei and Iain Borden, for their work on Bartlett Promise Scholarship. Runner up: John Filling, Social and Historical Sciences. 
• Improving the student experience: Martin Vasilev, Brain Sciences. Runner up: UCL Medical School (MBBS) Quality Assurance and Enhancement Team / Digital Education (John Hines, Izzie Jay, Michelle Galloway, James Adams, Taylor Bennie and Tom Olney). 
• Impactful student partnership: students Rebecca Ogbonna and Galila Khougali, with staff Sarah Rolph and Sara Shafiei, Bartlett (Built Environment). 

Student Choice Award winners 

The Students’ Union received 818 nominations for 479 individual members of staff, recognising staff for their contributions. The winners are:   

• Active student partnership: Sarah Matthews, Mathematical and Physical Sciences 
• Diverse and inclusive education: Ayeshah Émon, Population Health Sciences 
• Excellent personal tutoring: Angela Cooper, Institute of Education 
• Exceptional feedback: Jackie Thomas, Laws 
• Inspiring teaching delivery: Rachel Rees, Brain Sciences 
• Outstanding research supervision: Vincent Muczynski, Medical Sciences 
• Sustainable education: Andrea Gauthier and Mina Vasalou, Institute of Education 
• Amazing support staff: Judy Medrington, Social and Historical Sciences 
• Brilliant research-based education: Stefano Miraglia, Bartlett (Built Environment).

Rep of the Year Award winners   

We have more than 2,000 Academic Reps, who represent students' academic interests every day. Any student or staff member can nominate an Academic Rep (including Course Reps, Research Student Reps, Lead Department Reps and Faculty Reps) for this award. The winners are:
