How you can help engage students in ExtendED Learning

28 April 2026

Please tell your students about the opportunities they can access through ExtendED Learning in Term 3.

Students working together

ExtendED Learning offers taught undergraduate and postgraduate students a diverse mix of opportunities, all designed to develop their future-ready skills and the confidence to use them.

A collaboration between UCL and Students’ Union UCL, the programme has been mapped with the Pillars of Employability – UCL's employability framework – which ensures that students are building skills and competencies that will support them in their futures, whatever their subject or next steps. Students can choose something that interests them, from one-off workshops and conferences to in-depth consultancy challenges and innovation labs, allowing students to apply their learning when tackling real-world problems.

Various dates, time commitments and modes are available, and no formal assessments are involved, meaning students can fit in ExtendED Learning around their Term 3 commitments and still experiment and innovate in a supportive, low-risk learning environment.

What’s new with ExtendED Learning?

Since launching the 2025/26 programme in late February, over 3,000 students have booked onto 50+ activities. New for this year, we have:

  • ‘Deepen your Knowledge’ strand that includes series of workshops led by the Academic Communication Centre, supporting students to tackle their dissertations and research projects.

  • Introduced formal recognition opportunities, allowing students to obtain HEAR achievement (undergraduate only) and a digital certificate for their participation.

  • Designed the programme with the Extended Learning Framework that helps students to understand the level of engagement and learning expected from each activity.

How you can help

ExtendED Learning activities will be taking place from 18 May to 12 June. Bookings for the 2025/26 programme are still open with limited spaces remaining on popular activities.

With your support and endorsement, more students will be able to learn about the programme and benefit from its skills-building opportunities.

You can use this pack of digital resources (UCL login required) to support local promotion to your students. The shared folder includes key messages about the programme, social media graphics and digital screen images.

We can also support with writing a tailored set of communications for your cohorts by highlighting specific activities that your students will be particularly interested in – simply reach out to Sue Zhen (ExtendED Learning Opportunities Programme Manager) at sue-zhen.yong@ucl.ac.uk to request this bespoke communications pack.

Thank you for helping to spread the word. If you have any questions, please email the ExtendED Learning team at: extendedlearning@ucl.ac.uk.
