07 November 2025, 12:00 pm–1:00 pm

a student sits on a bench in UCL Quad working on a laptop and smiling.

Please note: we run several different training sessions on generative AI. Some sessions build on information from others, while other sessions are designed for particular staff groups rather than a general audience. We have suggested pathways and topics to help choose the right session for you. A GenAI Training SharePoint (link below) is available to help support your development with GenAI.

This event is free.

GenAI Training SharePoint

This session provides a ground-up, non-specialist explanation of what GenAI is and how it works. We’ll look at the technology itself, its common applications, and bust some myths about what it can and can’t do. This session assumes no prior knowledge or experience with AI.

A recording of the session is available to view on the GenAI Training SharePoint, but we encourage you to attend a live session – there’ll be time put aside for questions.

This webinar aims to:
Give you a solid grounding in what GenAI is and how it works.

Update you on how GenAI has been entering higher education, as well as student and staff views on its use.
Provide an entry point into UCL's GenAI staff training programme.

After attending this session, you’ll be able to:

Describe in broad terms how GenAI functions, and confidently use key terms around the technology (e.g., generative, chatbot, LLM, training data).

Identify key limitations of state-of-the-art GenAI models.

Assess data on students’ common uses of GenAI.
