The aim of this practical and interactive workshop is to introduce you to a variety of ways in which you can incorporate creative active learning strategies into your online classes to increase student motivation and participation. Active learning, as the name suggests, is a form of engagement that enables students to actively engage in their own learning.
This workshop will:
- Discuss the importance of student agency, empowerment, and motivation in the classroom
- Introduce participants to creative active learning tools that can be used in an online learning environment
- Reflect on the pedagogical benefits of using active learning strategies when teaching online
After attending this session you will be albe to:
- Examine the benefits of using active learning in their classes
- Understand how they can enhance their teaching practice using a variety of active learning strategies, to foster an environment that empowers students and their learning
- Assess which active learning strategies are best suited for their subject area to ensure inclusivity, learner attention, motivation and success
- Utilise online tools to ascertain students’ prior knowledge
- Reflect on and critically examine their own style of teaching
