The overarching theme of the 2019 UCL Education Conference is inclusive education.
Many of the day’s events will focus on innovative teaching practice that removes barriers to learning, and maximises students’ engagement with their education.
Inclusive education
Staff and students will be joined by guest speakers to give presentations, participate in panel discussions and run interactive workshops about how we’re making our programmes inclusive, accessible and engaging for all our students. There will be many opportunities to discuss how we can continue to remove barriers from the education we provide to ensure fairness and equality.
Themes will include:
- BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) attainment
- inclusive and creative assessments;
- widening participation;
- accessibility for students requiring additional support
- using technology to improve learning.
The broader programme
Many other aspects of teaching and learning at UCL will be explored, such as open-access resources, student support and well-being provision, and personal tutoring.
Sessions include:
- How Moodle is helping international students participate more fully and confidently during lectures
- Using virtual reality to train junior surgeons for abdominal surgical emergencies
- How engaging directly and creatively with disability can disrupt the existing culture of architectural education
- Understanding the voice and experience of Bangladeshi female students
- How BME students experience academic life, and how they see, understand and explain the attainment gap
- What does an ‘inclusive’ curriculum mean? Students views on inclusivity and diversity
- UCL reflect - a blogging platform for personal and academic use aimed at improving students’ educational engagement and performance through technology.
We’re currently putting together the programme for the day. Please look out for the full details, which we’ll be publishing on Wednesday 06 March 2019.
