International Guest Lecture

UCL-TB was honoured to host Dr Gerald Friedland, Professor Emeritus at Yale University, for a special guest lecture on Monday, 6th November 2017.  Dr Friedland's talk, "Confronting HIV and TB from the Bronx NY to Tugela Ferry, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa... and Beyond", was a fascinating snapshot into his experiences with HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis from the early 1980s to the present day.

The talk was live streamed and recorded - watch the recording (full running time is approximately 74 minutes).

Dr Friedland began working with HIV/AIDS patients in the US in 1981 and, more recently, his pioneering research has included integrating HIV and TB care and treatment in co-infected patients in South Africa with the aim of improving diagnosis, treatment and outcome of both diseases.  He received the N'Galy Mann Award in 2016 and the Maxwell Finland Lectureship in 2010.
