The World Health Organisation is seeking an epidemiologist to support the work of the TB Monitoring and Evaluation Unit for one year, with particular emphasis on strengthening TB surveillance, and improving the analysis and use of TB surveillance data.
Tasks
1. Contribute to the implementation and follow-up of TB surveillance assessments using the WHO checklist of standards and benchmarks in priority countries. For new assessments, countries will be selected according to expressed demand, the availability of funding and the timing of requests (approximately 25%).
2. Develop training workshop material (presentations, hand-outs and practical examples, solutions and datasets) to support the analysis and use of TB data, to accompany the chapters of the WHO handbook on understanding and using TB data (it should be noted that some material has already been drafted but requires further development) (approximately 30%).
3. Lead the organization and facilitation of training workshops designed to build capacity to analyse and use TB data in 3 priority countries and/or regions, ensuring that they are customised to the local context. Countries will be selected according to expressed demand, the availability of funding and the timing of requests (approximately 25%).
4. Promote the use of the training material on analysis and use of TB data in global and regional meetings and workshops, with a focus on using the results of analyses to improve data quality, inform policy and programmatic action and to define priority topics for research (approximately 10%).
5. Contribute to other priority areas of work in TME, such as drug resistance surveillance and the 2016 global TB report (approximately 10%).
Full terms of reference are available here.
Interested applicants should send a motivation letter explaining why they would like to undertake the consultancy, how their qualifications and experience match the profile sought, and an up-to-date CV to Dr Charalampos Sismanidis, WHO/GTB (sismanidisc@who.int), with cc. to Ms Pamela Baillie (bailliep@who.int) by Thursday 4 November 2015.
