Careers
UCLse has strong links with companies in the aerospace, communications, construction, energy, transport and defence sectors and our Industrial Advisory Board ensures relevance to industry. Graduates of this programme are expected to develop careers as Project or Programme Managers in major engineering, technology and consulting companies such as Airbus, Jaguar Land Rover, BAE Systems, Boeing, GE, General Dynamics UK, London Underground, QinetiQ, SELEX, THALES, Ultra Electronics, Accenture and PA Consulting.
Through the programme, you will have opportunities to build your personal networks with tutors, visiting lecturers and around fifty other MSc students. Tutors will be able to give personal advice on career development based on your strengths, experience and interests.
Employability
Much of our training is based around real-world scenarios and focuses on helping you to develop your experience base.
Drawing on our experience of providing short training courses for industry (such as the Project Manager training courses we run for the European Space Agency) we integrate a large amount of skills development into our teaching, all of which will be beneficial for future careers. This includes:

Skills and knowledge
The MSc Management of Complex Projects programme will enable you to develop a powerful set of skills and knowledge, including:
- An appreciation of the challenges of complex projects - in particular around the definition of objectives, management of stakeholders and their requirements, management of risk and value and the management of contracts
- Key skills aligned with APM's (Association for Project Management) body of knowledge and INCOSE's (International Council for Systems Engineering) core competencies and appropriate standards (e.g. ISO 15288)
- An integrated, interdisciplinary view of complex systems and an understanding of issues associated with their development, deployment, maintenance, upgrade and disposal
- An understanding of different systems' development lifecycle options and processes, and how to optimise these for a given project
- An awareness and understanding of the economic and organisational context within which systems are developed, including the limitations these can impose
- Necessary management skills and an understanding of the relationship between project management and systems development
- The ability to manage risk and the creation of robust and resilient systems
Understanding project management for tough projects
Our courses will help students to:
- Understand how to deliver projects in the most challenging environments
- Select the best technologies and find the right balance between novelty and risk
- Be aware of the context within which projects are delivered including the economic and organisational constraints
- Understand important concepts such as value, strategy, innovation and intellectual property
- Manage risk and create reliable and resilient systems
- Conduct novel research in areas of interest through extensive projects
