The Branco lab is looking for a Research Fellow to provide expertise in advanced patch-clamp electrophysiological recordings and imaging, and apply these techniques in combination to the study of circuits involved in innate defensive behaviours in mice. A focal point of the project will be to analyse processing of visual stimuli, and therefore experience of working in the visual system is highly desirable.
You will perform recordings in vitro and in vivo, with a focus on investigating biophysical properties of neurons and how they control defensive behaviour. You will determine, develop and implement the required experimental paradigms and subsequent data analysis pipeline, and play a major role in the work of the research group through the conduct of research, management of resources, support and training of others, introduction of new ideas and dissemination of research results.
The post is funded for three years in the first instance.
You’ll hold a PhD in Neuroscience (or have submitted your thesis prior to appointment), have extensive experience with electrophysiological, imaging and surgical techniques, and computer programming expertise in Python or Matlab. You’ll possess excellent analytical skills and an understanding of statistics, as well as the ability to conduct reproducible research and work collaboratively with colleagues across the SWC. A demonstrable understanding and interest in the Branco lab, and the work of the SWC more broadly, is essential.
This post is full time with a salary of £35,328 - £42,701 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
