Sustainable Careers
UCL Careers Policy
UCL has an employer engagement policy here and is a member of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) and abide by their code of ethics. Available resources, appointments, and events, such as the Sustainability Careers Programme, can help students to reflect on embedding values in the context of their career planning. UCL Careers are currently working on promoting greater visibility of employer values in this context. Careers are consulting with many different parties, including Sustainable UCL, to develop a tool which will effectively badge employers based on their commitment to stated values whilst following UCL Careers’ emphasis on informed freedom of choice. Contact details and team information for UCL careers is available here.
Sustainability Careers Fortnight
Throughout the year UCL Careers and Sustainable UCL collaborate to host a Sustainability Careers Programme. We aim to expand your knowledge on the business and global challenge elements of the sustainability sector and prepare you for a career in the field. Businesses are looking for graduates who are able to:
- Analyse real-world situations critically - more and more jobs are global - and an understanding of international issues is vital
- Demonstrate ethical leadership - increasingly desirable to conscious customers
- Work within different social contexts
- Engage with a diverse range of people
- Use resources and budgets wisely
Why?
FACT: Students with sustainability skills, who have the ability to solve our global challenges are highly employable. Organisations now seek employees across the entire organisation who are sustainability literate - not just in 'sustainability' roles. Whether that’s understanding climate risks in an investment portfolio or Modern Day Slavery issues within recruitment roles.
How is each sector moving towards a sustainable future?
Sustainability is a realistic, varied, interesting and prosperous career path which has many routes in, and isn’t just for geographers! Find out for yourself at the next Sustainability Fortnight!
