Sustainable UCL

Supplier Engagement

UCL recognises that in order to achieve its ambitious sustainability objectives, we need our partners and suppliers to be on board.

In order for this to happen we must support our suppliers to deliver responsible procurement, improve their environmental performance and ensure they are making a positive impact on society.

We use the NETpositive tool to help our suppliers improve their sustainability credentials. See our NETpositive page for more details.

UCL’s Suppliers are also required to follow:

Supplier engagement successes

See some of the successful collaborations already achieved:

  • UCL’s catering contractors are required to meet UCL’s Sustainable Food Policy. By working collaboratively, many of our catering outlets have achieved the Silver Food for Life Award.
  • A collaboration between UCL’s catering and waste contractors and start-up company ‘bio-bean’, has led to UCL’s coffee grounds being recycled into biofuel. UCL is also the first university to trial the recycling of coffee cups from our outlets.
  • UCL is a member of Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium (SUPC) who are in turn a member of Procurement England Ltd (PEL). UCL uses many of SUPC’s framework agreements for procurement of goods and services. Notably, our IT equipment is predominantly procured through SUPC, who are members of the Electronics Watch. This ensures we are supporting labour rights for workers of these manufacturers.
