Share Best Practice: Sustainable Teaching

10 January 2025

The UCL Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) committee members are collecting case studies from teaching staff on how they embed sustainability into their teaching, to help share best practices across the university.

ESD is defined by UNESCO (2025) as:

Education for Sustainable Development empowers people with the knowledge, skills, values, attitudes and behaviors to live in a way that is good for the environment, economy, and society. It encourages people to make smart, responsible choices that help create a better future for everyone.

UCL is ranked 1st in the UK for Sustainability and 5th globally in the QS Sustainability rankings. There is so much good practice at UCL, and we want to celebrate and share these best practices.

We are offering two formats for sharing case studies:

Video format

Follow these steps to record your video on Microsoft Teams. Please ensure your video is no longer than 5 minutes, with a preferred length of up to 3 minutes. Use the questions in the written case study form to shape the content in your video.

  • Turn on your video and audio, then join the meeting.
  • Click the Share button and choose the Presenter mode and the screen or window you want to share.
  • In the meeting window, click the More actions button (three dots) and select Start recording.
  • A banner will appear indicating that the recording has started. Begin your presentation or recording.
  • When you're done, click the More actions button again and select Stop recording or simply leave the meeting.
  • The recording will be saved to your OneDrive under the Recordings folder. You can then upload or edit it as needed

This method allows you to create a video that can be shared easily with others. If you need more detailed instructions.
