Meet our next Bike Buddy: Samir Aoudjane
22 September 2020
Our Bike Buddy scheme aims to help staff and students cycle to UCL. We team experienced cyclists with people who are new to cycling or would like some support in getting to and from UCL. Bike Buddies can assist with knowledge on local routes, and can take people into campus.
What do you do at UCL?
I'm a research scientist.
What made you want to be a bike buddy?
I want to encourage more people to cycle, it helps you get fit, save money, reduce traffic, and lowers your carbon footprint.
What’s your route?
I come up the Old Kent Road, round Elephant and Castle then across Waterloo bridge and through Covent Garden to UCL. This is a pretty full on route I guess, but I can show different quieter routes to beginners.
What’s your favourite thing about cycling?/ How did you get into cycling?
Cycling changed my life, it got me into fitness and opened up actually knowing my way around London in a way I didn't understand before when I used the tube.
Do you have any top tips for cycling? / Are there any cycling myths you’d like to bust?
I have heard it said that there is no such thing as bad weather only poorly planned clothing. This isn't completely true but there is a thread of truth to it that can help cycling in Winter.
