UCL has commited to being a single-use-plastic free campus by 2024. To achieve this we will need to understand which plastics are essential, like those in our labs and medical divisions, and which are unsustainable. There are many buzzwords around this topic such as compostable and biodegradable and some alternatives can sometimes be more damaging to the environment than single-use plastic disposbables. Rather than feel daunted by all of these options, we want to help you navigate this complex issue.
Alex Jones, the Environment, Health and Safety Officer for the Sustainability Team, will be taking us through the sustainable procurement processes at UCL and explaining how this contributes to the aims of the new Sustainability Strategy 2019-2024. We will throw the workshop open for you to discuss the impacts of those products you buy for the workplace.
Tea, coffee and sandwiches will be on offer (all veggie / vegan) but do bring your own mugs and reusable vessels as there will be no disposable cups at this one!
