Join UCL’s Model United Nations Conference
10 November 2023
UCL’s United Nations Association student society is hosting a series of model UN committees in which students discuss various topics relating to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Students at UCL are invited to join the UCL Model United Nations Conference 2023 on 24–26 November. After a pause due to the global pandemic, the conference makes its grand return with Students from across the world expected to join in person.
The conference will include a series of model UN committees in which students will discuss topics including Refugees access to jobs and financial services, Approaches to Climate Change and New Agenda for Peace. Each committee refences at least one SDG. The model 2024 Summit of the Future simulation will focus on how the SDGs can be achieved.
The actual UN 2024 Summit of the Future simulation is its follow-up to the 2023 SDG Summit and creates the conditions in which the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development can more readily be achieved. The two topics that committee simulation will be discussing are: 1) A New Agenda for Peace and 2) Declaration for Future Generations. The first topic will look at and how far off track the world is in achieving SDG16 (Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions). The second topic will question how much more effort the world given to the SDGs, given the duty we owe to future generations.
Delegates taking part in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) committee will also see their work shared with the actual UNHCR, with the best ideas receiving awards.
