Through the four MA programmes offered by the UCL Institute of Education’s Centre for Education & International Development (EID), students can advance their knowledge and understanding of issues related to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, while engaging with themes from a number of other SDGs.
“The four programmes offer a unique combination of opportunities to study education in the context of international development, opportunities not offered elsewhere in the UK or globally,” says Dr Ian Warwick, Programme Leader for the EID’s MA in Education, Health Promotion and International Development.
While developing their understanding of the broader theories and concepts of education and international development, students are able to follow their particular interest by focusing on areas such as: gender inequalities and sexualities; promoting health and wellbeing; economics of education: educational planning; conflict, emergencies and peacebuilding; researching education in the context of international development.

Students enrolled on the MAs explore the relationship between education and wider social processes in contexts of poverty and inequality, and critically examine relevant contemporary policy and practice-related issues
All four MAs provide students with an opportunity to conduct a small -scale research study of relevance to their own interests – with the MA Education, Gender and International Development; MA Education, Health Promotion and International Development and MA Economics, Educational Planning and International Development enabling students to specialise in one of these fields.
