From 19th - 30th October 2020, UCL will host the Beyond Boundaries virtual series of talks, jointly organised by the Grand Challenges programme and Global Engagement Office, in order to engage the UCL community and beyond in key concerns surrounding our role in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.
We want students to play a central role in these conversations in order to consider our responsibilities as a university in a global society, and the expectations of students for their education, experience as a community and future careers. In the run up to the event, we will be inviting submissions of various medium to answer the question "What do the SDGs mean to you?". Submissions might include prerecorded talks, live conversations, music, creative writing, photography, short film, think-pieces, and more! Submissions will be hosted on a square space webpage and curated by a team of student communications volunteers.
If you are interested in being part of this team we would love to hear from you. This part-time opportunity would be valuable for anybody looking for some experience in communications and campaigns, and volunteers would be part of a small network of student volunteers supported by UCL staff. It would also suit anyone interested in the arts, development, sustainability and the all-important student voice. You can work at your own pace and availability can be discussed in due course.
The role will begin in early September and include social media work to promote the page, webpage editing, reviewing submissions, uploading original content and answering questions and queries as they come in.
We envision that the submissions will continue into November to conclude the live event properly, and there may be opportunity to take the site and content further.
If you want to hear more then please write to sophie.mepham@ucl.ac.uk with your CV and a short statement/cover letter explaining your interest in the role, your availability and background, by 20th August. If you have examples of current work please send links too.
