StARs Annual Reception 2016

10 August 2016

On Monday 6 June 2016, StARs (Student Academic Representatives) from across the

university attended the StARs Annual Reception; an opportunity to celebrate and thank this year’s StARs for their hard work and indulge in a well-deserved drinks reception and lunch, provided by UCLU.

StAR Emily Blumenthal said “The most rewarding part of being a StAR is relaying information to my peers in order to provide clarity and relieve stress. It's helpful to know there are staff and faculty who genuinely care about the students' experiences, and they are willing to discuss issues for the betterment of the programs”.

The Division was delighted that fourteen of its StARs had earned their official certificate from UCLU; three of these qualifying for the StARs Advanced Certificate (the only StARs from the Faculty of Medical Sciences to achieve the Advanced Certificate). Carlos Villarreal-Hernandez, Emily Blumenthal, Julia Jones and Wai Ho, collectively representing both MSc and PhD programmes at the Division’s Royal Free and Stanmore campuses. were all presented with their certificates by Professor Anthony Smith, Vice Provost (Education and Student Affairs).

StAR Julia Jones said “What I found rewarding was being able listen to and being the intermediary for students to have a platform to voices their issues, both positive and negative”.

Why not become a Divisional StAR for next year? Teaching Administrators will be contacting students on their programmes in October 2016 to recruit the 2016/17 StARs.
