UCL Division of Surgery and Interventional Science

President-Elect of Royal College of Surgeons to visit Division

Miss Clare Marx

30 May 2014

Miss Clare Marx, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Associate Medical Director at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust, will be speaking at the Division’s Academic Surgical Meeting in July.

In April 2014, Miss Marx was elected President of the Royal College of Surgeons, the first female President in its 214 year history. She will take up her appointment in July 2014. Miss Marx has long been a pioneering figure in the field of UK surgery. After her Chairmanship of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Specialist Advisory Committee, during which the new T&O curriculum was written, she went on to be President of the British Orthopaedic Association 2008-9. She has a keen interest in the Patient Safety agenda and chairs the College Invited Review Mechanism.

Also high on her agenda are workforce issues, particularly the low percentage of women entering surgery, the challenges of delivering quality training in reduced working hours, and the need for professionals to continuously strive for improvements in quality and care of their patients. The Division is delighted to welcome Miss Marx to the Stanmore Campus at 9am on July 3rd. For further information and to RSVP, please contact rachel.godfrey@ucl.ac.uk.
