Who is the summer school designed for?
The summer school is designed for two types of participant: those who already work in the field of public health and who want to refresh their knowledge of population health, and those who are considering a career in public health or related research such as social epidemiology and health policy (national and global). Our course is multi-disciplinary. There will be an opportunity to network with other participants prior to arrival at the summer school, details of this will be made available once payment is received.
Where will the summer school be held?
The summer school will be held at UCL which is located in central London, close to Regent's Park, the British Museum, the British Library and West End shops and theatres.
Summer school hours
The full programme will run Monday – Friday between the hours of 9am – 5pm approximately with additional events on Monday and Thursday evenings.
Who are the teaching staff?
The course director is Dr Ruth Bell, and the co-directors are Professor Eric Brunner and Dr Anne Peasey. Teaching staff include senior academics from the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, the MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing, and the UCL Institute of Health Equity. Teaching staff include Professor Mel Bartley, Prof Martin Bobak, Prof Peter Goldblatt, Prof Nora Groce, Prof Rebecca Hardy, Prof Yvonne Kelly, Prof Sir Michael Marmot, Dr Anne McMunn, Dr Hynek Pikhart, Prof Marcus Richards, Prof Amanda Sacker, Dr Sebastian Taylor, Dr Sridhar Venkatapuram, and Prof Richard Watt.
Are the courses accredited?
All participants will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance. Faculty of Public Health CPD credits can be claimed and one ECTS credit may be claimed.
How much is the summer school?
The fee for the summer school is £880 per applicant. This includes all course materials and a supplementary reading list, library and internet access, lectures and seminars by senior staff – approximately 30 contact hours, guest speakers, lunches, morning & afternoon tea, and social events.
Are there early bird discounts that I can apply for?
Yes, you can save £100 per applicant if you pay by the early bird deadline of Monday 15th May 2017.
The early bird fee of £780 per applicant is available to all applicants whose payment is received no later than 15th May 2017.
Are there group discounts?
Yes, group discounts are available for groups of 3 or more people applying at the same time and paying by Monday 15th May 2017.
The cost is £720 per applicant for group payments received by Monday 15th May 2017.
Are there any scholarships?
Yes, there is one scholarship available this year. Once you have completed the standard online booking form for the summer school, please review selection criteria for the scholarship and complete the scholarship application form if you think that you are eligible.
Is there a deadline for applications to the summer school?
Yes, the deadline for applying is Monday 12th June 2017. Unfortunately we are unable to accept applications after this date.
