Your tuition fees
Every student is charged a fee for the duration of their studies at UCL.
What this covers
Your tuition
All elements of your registration, enrolment, tuition, supervision and examination for each full or part academic year for which you are enrolled.
What this doesn't cover
Living costs
Living and accommodation costs are separate.
Travel
Travel costs are not included in your tuition fees.
Study materials
You may need additional study materials, depending on your course.
When you accept your place at UCL, you accept responsibility for ensuring your fees are paid, whether that is by you or by another source of funding.
How much you should pay
For most new students, tuition fees will be quoted on your offer letter. Programme fees for new students may also be viewed in our online fee schedules and on our course pages.
Continuing students may view upcoming fees in Portico, which is usually updated over the summer. Some fees have annual increases of no more than RPI-X (Retail Prices Index), in line with the Student Terms and Conditions.
The exceptions are UK undergraduates, whose fees are capped by the UK Government, as well as overseas undergraduates and most postgraduate taught students (from 2025-26), who benefit from a cohort guarantee, meaning that tuition fees will not increase for the duration of the programme.
UCL reserves the right to increase tuition fees to reflect any sums (including levies, taxes, or similar financial charges) that UCL is required to pay any governmental authority in connection with tuition fees.
Each yearly fee can be paid in instalments depending on when you first enrol.
Modular (flexible) students
Fees are shown in Portico for the upcoming year, based on the credit value of the modules selected. Each yearly fee can be paid in instalments depending on when you first enrol. If modules are added, removed or changed during the year, your fees in Portico will be re-calculated.
Repeat fees
In line with Section 9 of the Academic Manual, students pay fees based on the number of credits being repeated.
Students at the UCL Institute of Education who must repeat a placement will pay:
| Academic year | Cost | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 2024-25 | £900 | One placement experience |
| 2025-26 | £900 | One placement experience |
| 2026-27 | £900 | One placement experience |
Extramural Year
Extramural years are additional to your programme of study and not part of the requirements of the course. Therefore, extramural years incur no tuition fees.
Study Abroad
Visit the Study Abroad website to find out how your fees will be affected.
Fee liability for interrupting or withdrawing
If you intend to interrupt, withdraw or make another change to your enrolment, find out about your fee liability.
Student fee status
Your fee status is determined in accordance with the Education (Fees and Awards) (England) Regulations 2007 (SI 2007, No. 779) and subsequent amendments, as approved by Act of Parliament.
How your fee status is calculated
Student fee status
