About this course

The Health Technology post enrolment specialism teaches the business acumen, technical knowledge, and regulatory expertise essential for success in the rapidly expanding health tech sector. Students will examine emerging digital and medical technologies, understand health data and cybersecurity, and foster skills in digital transformation and health technology entrepreneurship. 

Course structure

There are 4 compulsory modules in Year 2 (15 credits each) for all students:

  • Comparative Health Systems
  • Health Ethics
  • Principles and Practices of Project Management
  • Research Methods for Management and Health

There are 4 compulsory modules for Health Technology students in Year 2 (15 credits each):

  • Medical Innovation and Enterprise I
  • Medical Innovation and Enterprise II
  • Digital Health Technologies and Applications
  • Health Data and Cyber Security

Modules

In each year of your degree you will take a number of individual modules, normally valued at 15 or 30 credits, adding up to a total of 120 credits for the year. Modules are assessed in the academic year in which they are taken. The balance of compulsory and optional modules varies from programme to programme and year to year. A 30-credit module is considered equivalent to 15 credits in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

In Year 3, the following module is taught as part of the Health Science post enrolment specialism at the UCL Bloomsbury campus:

Students will need to fund their own travel between the UCL Bloomsbury and UCL East campuses for the face-to-face components of these modules.

For in-person teaching, UCL's main teaching locations are in zones 1 (Bloomsbury) and zones 2/3 (UCL East). The cost of a monthly 18+ Oyster travel card for zones 1–2 is £119.90. Can I change my course option selection?

  • Yes, you can. Once you are enrolled, there will be a short window to switch course option until the module selection period closes. It is essential to raise any concerns early if you are uncertain about your course option selection. 

Can I transfer between the BSc and MSci? 

  • Yes, you can. If you are unsure whether to pick the BSc or MSci, we advise you apply for the MSci initially. You can transfer between the BSc and MSci until the end of Year 1. There are no specific conditions for transferring.
