Benefits of a UCL education
UCL is uniquely positioned to draw upon its world-leading research to make positive impact on real-world problems.
Since 1826, we have championed independent thought by attracting and nurturing the world’s best minds. Here, centuries of discoveries have been made by people thinking non-stop about the future. UCL is one of the world’s top universities, with broad disciplinary excellence in research, innovation, education and impact.
Research-based education
As a research-intensive university, UCL not only educates students to prepare them for a rapidly changing world, but also continues to push forward with innovative research. Our Connected Curriculum framework for research-based education ensures that we continue to build a learning culture that challenges students and prepares them for life after graduation.

London
As well as being an exciting place to be a student, London is a hub of academic and professional opportunities. The creative, financial, and technological industries all have large bases in the city, providing opportunities for internships, networking, and part-time work for London’s student population. London’s museums, libraries, theatres, institutes and academies are not just great places to visit; they can complement a student’s studies and allow them to pursue their areas of interest.
UCL is based in the Knowledge Quarter – an area of London that is home to resources ranging from the world’s earliest books and manuscripts to cutting-edge medical research. We have the British Museum and the British Library on our doorstep, along with the UK homes of YouTube and Google, the Wellcome Collection, the Francis Crick Institute, and a host of other organisations and institutions whose missions are to advance and disseminate knowledge.
Alumni network
UCL’s relationship with former students continues long after they graduate. We have a global network of more than 465,000 UCL alumni and offer lots of opportunities for them to stay connected with UCL and each other.
