Newsletter Submissions
Overview
The Doctoral School Newsletter is sent out 1-2 times a month to all Doctoral Researchers at UCL. It contains news and comms that are relevant and/or will be of interest to all or a large cohort of doctoral researchers. Common categories for comms items include:
- General announcements/news
- Opportunities (including scholarships, studentships, exchange schemes, competitions etc.)
- Events, workshops and training
- Surveys and research participation calls
- Societies, networks and memberships
We are open to receiving comms items outside of these categories as long as they meet the submission guidelines below.
Subscribing to our Newsletter
The Doctoral School Newsletter is automatically emailed out to all UCL doctoral researchers/postgraduate research (PGR) students so you do not need to subscribe to the letter if you’re a registered PGR student. However, if you’d like to view real time updates and/or view additional news items outside of the monthly email(s), please do subscribe to our newsletter below.

Criteria
Your comms item must be relevant to all or a significant cohort of doctoral researchers/postgraduate researchers, some examples of significant cohorts being:
- multiple departments
- an entire faculty or faculty grouping
- doctoral researchers who fall within a particular group or student status e.g., international students, mature students etc.
- Sports, hobbies or activities that are not research focused or specific but are open to PGs/PGRs only
If your comms item is only relevant to, for example, your department, this will be best placed going in your department comms.
- Your comms item should have all key details/requirements confirmed prior to submission in our newsletter e.g., we cannot post a scholarship opportunity without a deadline or an event without a confirmed date and venue.
- Announcements and news comms that are relevant to the entire student body (i.e. undergraduates, postgraduates and postgraduate researchers) can also be included in our newsletter.
- Staff news and announcements that are relevant to a significant group of doctoral researchers e.g., Postgraduate Teaching Assistants, can also be included in our newsletter.
If you aren’t sure whether your comms item meets the criteria, please email docschool@ucl.ac.uk before submitting your item.
Guidelines
- Keep your comms content as succinct as possible and stick to the key details. There is an option in the form to include a link to a webpage for further details.
- Once submitted, your advert will be uploaded to the next newsletter. If your comms item requires advertising urgently, please email docschool@ucl.ac.uk so we can advise on the best comms/advertising options for you.
- We are happy to repost comms as reminders. If you would like your comms submission to be reposted in another newsletter as a reminder, please email docschool@ucl.ac.uk to request this. You do not need to re-submit a form unless there have been significant changes to the details.
