What’s your background?

Hi, I’m Tracy and I’m from Lebanon, and I studied the Lebanese Baccalaureate General Sciences section, which focused on mainly math and physics, which I really enjoyed, and it oriented me towards engineering.

Why did you choose to study UPC at UCL?

Firstly, I wanted to study at UCL because they offered this really unique course, which is Mechanical Engineering with Business Finance, which was not offered by many other universities. However, I did not have the correct requirements to enter as a first-year student. So UPC really bridged that gap for me.

How did it feel to be awarded the UPC Progression Scholarship?

Being awarded the scholarship was a moment of immense pride for me, and it truly assured to me that hard work does pay off.

What are you doing next?

I’ll be starting my degree in Mechanical Engineering with Business Finance, and I feel like the UPC really helped me academically wise as it provided me with skills such as time management and critical thinking.

What was the biggest challenge you faced during your time on the UPC and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge that I faced during my time here was living alone for the first time, doing tedious tasks such as cooking and cleaning. I overcame this by consulting with my personal tutor and establishing a routine.

The UPC Progression Scholarship is awarded to the students from each UPC pathway with the strongest academic performance throughout the course. What advice would you give?

I know this is really cliché, but, never leave work for the last minute. Study consistently every day and never let the workload build up.

What is it like to live and study in London?

London is a very exciting place to live, with countless tourist spots and activities to do every single day. However, it’s important to find a balance between studying and enjoying the city.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done, seen or got involved with while at UCL?

One of the highlights of my time at UCL, was joining the Lebanese Society. It was comforting meeting familiar people.

How is the UK education system different to your home country?

The education system of the UK is different from back home as there are less teaching hours. The material is more condensed and there is more emphasis on self-learning.

Where did you live during the UPC, and how was your experience?

During my time in the UPC, I stayed at UCL accommodation which was Unite Students St. Pancras Square and the residence and the staff were both really friendly and I felt safe and at home.

Where is your favourite place on campus and why?

My favourite place on campus to either study or chill was the Print Room Cafe. It has a really warm and cozy vibe.
