How to apply - Affiliate students
You should apply online for UCL Accommodation as soon as you have accepted an offer to study at UCL, and no later than 10 June in your year of study. Rooms are allocated based on preferences.
Step 1 - Check your eligibility.
For 2026-27, affiliate students will be guaranteed an offer if they apply for accommodation for 39 weeks or Term 1 and meet the eligibility criteria. Affiliate students who apply for accommodation for Terms 2 & 3 will not be guaranteed an offer, but will be allocated by way of a waiting list.
Affiliate students meet our eligibility criteria if they:
- are a full-time student.
- are attending UCL as an affiliate through any of the following programmes: Undergraduate Preparatory Certificate (UPC) / International Pre-Master’s (IPM) / Junior Year Abroad (JYA), Erasmus, or an Exchange Programme.
- apply for Term 1 or the full academic year.
- apply as a single applicant (not as a family or a couple)
- have not previously lived or studied in Greater London at a Higher Education Institution (University)
- submit their UCL Accommodation application (separate to application to study) by 10 June in their year of study
Affiliate students joining in January 2027
Affiliate students attending UCL in January 2027 will be able to apply for the Affiliate 2026-2027 (Terms 2 & 3) term from Monday, 28 September 2026. Places will be allocated between October to December 2026 and are subject to availability.
What if I'm not eligible?
If you are not eligible, you can find information about seeking non-UCL accommodation, including private student accommodation and private rentals, on our Alternative Accommodation for Students page.
Students with Additional Requirements
We welcome applications from students with additional requirements. As a part of your application, you will need to provide recent and relevant evidence supporting your need for a specific room type.
Step 2 - Choose preferences
Affiliate students will be allocated to one of our undergraduate halls, and do not choose a specific hall.
Instead, you will be asked to select the below preferences in the UCL Accommodation Portal:
- Catered / Self-catered (catered where most of your meals are prepared for you, or self-catered where you make your meals yourself)
- Room type (Shared bathroom / Ensuite / Studio)
- Preferred maximum weekly rent
Check the price points of our different room types and halls and decide which options line up with your budget.
We will take your preferences into account when rooms are allocated. Due to the large number of applications, these preferences are not guaranteed to be met.
Step 3 - Submit application
Complete and submit your application via the UCL Accommodation Portal by 10 June in your year of study.
(For example, if you’re coming to UCL for September 2026, you must apply by 10 June 2026). You will receive a confirmation email when you have submitted your application.
You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible after receiving your UCL offer.
Ensure your email is up to date
Make sure your email address is correct, and check your spam and junk folders.
If you have registered with UCAS using a school email address, we recommend that you update your details with a personal email, as you may lose access by the time offers are being sent out and this could cause you to miss out on your room.
Step 4 - Receiving an offer
The next time you hear from us will be when we make offers of accommodation.
Offers will be sent out between April and the end of August.
We allocate rooms based on preferences. Not all offers are generated at once, so we kindly ask you to bear with us and be patient.
Step 5 - Accept
You will receive an offer by email, which you are required to accept through the UCL Accommodation Portal. To accept, you must pay a £400 prepayment within 4 days. Failure to do so will result in the offer being withdrawn.
Be sure to check your emails regularly to ensure you don’t miss your offer!
