Applying for Accommodation for 2026-27
Eligbility criteria
To be considered a place for UCL Accommodation, you must meet our eligibility criteria.
Use the section below to find out whether you’re eligible for UCL Accommodation. You will also find key deadlines, offer timelines, and next steps on this page.
For 2026-27, UCL will guarantee an offer of accommodation to all full-time, first-year undergraduate students who are studying at UCL for the first time.
The guarantee applies to individual applicants only (not as part of a couple or family), apply before the deadline, and meet the eligibility criteria.
Places are allocated to eligible applicants in order of date submitted. We recommend submitting your UCL Accommodation application as early as possible, after choosing UCL as your firm choice.
First-year, full-time, international postgraduate students will be prioritised for a place in halls if they apply before the deadline and meet the eligibility criteria.
International students refers to students with an Overseas fee status. If you're paying Home fees, you will not be eligible for a prioritised place.
Students under 18 years old (as of 19 September 2026) are guaranteed to receive an offer for UCL Accommodation in one of the following halls: Ian Baker House, James Lighthill House, or Ramsay Hall.
Please note that we are unable to allocate under 18s to twin rooms.
UCL Accommodation welcomes and supports applications from students with additional requirements and will support them to ensure they are allocated rooms that meet their needs.
Additional requirements can include:
- Health issues
- Physical and invisible disabilities
- Neurodivergent conditions
- Students who are care-experienced or estranged
As part of your application, you will need to provide recent and relevant evidence that supports your need for a specific room type.
Learn what evidence you need to provide on the Students with Additional Requirements webpage.
UCL has very limited accommodation for those who would like to live with their partner, family, or children. Applications must be made directly through the UCL Accommodation Portal.
Students with children are advised not to bring them to London until firm arrangements for accommodation are in place.
We also recommend exploring other couples and family housing providers listed on the Alternative Accommodation for Students webpage.
Additional information, including which halls offer family accommodation, are available on the Halls webpage.
Students on the Undergraduate Preparatory Certificate (UPC) intensive one-year foundation course are eligible to apply for UCL Accommodation and are only allocated to undergraduate halls.
Please refer to our How to Apply – Affiliate students webpage for details about the eligibility criteria, application deadlines and allocation timelines.
Please note that if you choose to study at UCL again after completing the UPC, you will not meet our eligibility criteria and we would recommend securing alternative accommodation. You can find resources to help you with your search on our Alternative Accommodation for Students webpage.
Students on the International Pre-Master’s (IPM) are eligible to apply for UCL Accommodation and are only allocated to undergraduate halls.
Please refer to our How to Apply – Affiliate students webpage for details about the eligibility criteria, application deadlines and allocation timelines.
Please note that if you choose to study at UCL again after completing the IPM course, you will not meet our eligibility criteria and we would recommend securing alternative accommodation. You can find resources to help you with your search on our Alternative Accommodation for Students webpage.
UCL cannot provide an accommodation place for Intercalated BSc (iBSc) students, and we would advise you to explore private housing. You can find resources to help you with your search on our Alternative Accommodation for Students webpage.
Affiliate students at UCL on Junior Year Abroad (JYA), Erasmus+, Exchange and Study Abroad (fee-paying) programmes can apply for UCL Accommodation and would only be allocated to undergraduate halls, regardless of their level of study.
Please refer to our How to Apply – Affiliate students webpage for details about the eligibility criteria, application deadlines and allocation timelines.
