Events

Working within the Student Support and Wellbeing team, I will be hosting a range of events and activities during term time to support your Social bonding, Skills for life and Wellbeing at university. Explore the workshops and activities you can join throughout the academic year listed below.

Term 1: September 25th - December 15th 2023
Your guide to thrive - Wellbeing Coffee Morning - 22nd November @ 10:00

A chance for first year students to get together over teas/coffees and pastries and meet with their Student Adviser. This is an in person event that will be held in the Nyholm Room, Christopher Ingold building. Pop along any time between 10:00-12:00 for a cuppa and a bite to eat!

Term 2: January 8th - March 22nd 2024
BEAT THE JANUARY BLUES - HUMAN BINGO SOCIAL - 24TH JANUARY @ 14:00

Come along to our in person social event and get to know fellow students from across the MAPS Faculty.

We will be running a human bingo where you have the chance to meet and get to know your fellow students by seeing what you have in common! We will provide snacks and refreshments and give you the resources on the day. There will also be prizes!

You can join us in the Institute of Education Building, room 102 - Drama Studio, at 2-3pm on 24/01/2024. We hope to see as many of you there as possible so we can all beat the winter blues together and have some fun!

Exam Season Toolkit - Wellbeing Corner and Plant Shop - 13th March from 14:30-16:00

Come down to our free plant shop this March and take a well-deserved break from your revision! We will be giving away free plants to students in the MAPS faculty (one per student and first come first served), to brighten up your rooms, help reduce stress, and have a positive impact on your mental health over the exam season. You will be able to socialise with your fellow students and unwind over a chat about plants!

You can join us in the Institute of Education Building, room 102 - Drama Studio. All the Student Advisers within the faculty will be present to have an informal chat about anything exam related, or anything else you would like to discuss.

Term 3: April 22nd - June 7th 2024

More information coming soon.

Who am I?

About Bikram

What was your experience of further or higher education like?

I really enjoyed my university experience; the first year was a massive adjustment and UCL was such a huge and daunting place, but by the second year I felt less like a headless chicken running around trying to figure everything out, I’d joined a couple of societies and made friends, which really helped me find a sense of belonging.

Who or what made the biggest positive impact on you when you were studying? And how did they support you?

My A Level Economics teacher, Mrs Massey, had the most positive impact on me. She made me believe that I had the potential to do well, her encouragement pushed me to buckle down and focus on my education. When she learned I wanted to apply to UCL she arranged a class trip to visit the campus.

What working achievements or initiatives are you most proud of?

Contributing to the launch and development of TeamUCL when I worked in the Students’ Union; coordinating and supporting teams competing in BUCS competitions across the country and more recently running the Project Active programme, for which I secured external funding to run a Mental Health and physical activity intervention.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

There are so many things I wish I could tell my younger self, but one in particular would be to learn to budget and manage my finances.

What would it surprise people to know about you?

I worked in HE Sport Development for almost 7 years but I am not a ‘sporty’ person! I prefer my sport in the form of adventure holidays, or from the stands/comfort of my couch!
