Further support whilst staying at home

It is important that you look after your mental health and general wellbeing whilst staying at home. If you need mental health or wellbeing support, we're here to help.

Looking after yourself

It is important to look after yourself when staying away from others. Remember that although you may be spending a prolonged time in one place, you are not alone and there are plenty of ways to stay connected to UCL and your friends and family.

Support from the Student Support and Wellbeing team

If you are staying at home because you are feeling unwell, we are here to support you.

Whether you are experiencing emotional difficulties or are seeking advice, our mental health and wellbeing resources are a great source of self-help guidance to understand the issues you may be experiencing. They include specific guidance around stress, anxiety, and depression, and help with sleep and mindfulness, among other topics.

UCLcares — our online self-care platform — brings together plenty of advice from other students, alongside information about wellbeing events, to help you look after your body, your mind, and those around you.

You can get support by making an appointment with one of our Disability, Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisers. We offer same-day appointments for brief enquiries and for help and support, so you can get support from our friendly and caring advisers.

If you need out-of-hours support, you can call an adviser via the UCL 24/7 Student Support Line (+44 (0) 808 238 0077). The service is free and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Student Psychological and Counselling Services

SPCS (Student Psychological and Counselling Services) helps students with personal, emotional and psychological concerns, through free counselling to all undergraduate and postgraduate students registered at UCL.

Our expert and caring staff in SPCS can provide short-term support to help you manage any mental health or psychological difficulties you might be experiencing. We can also refer you to other organisations if your needs are outside their areas of expertise, and we'll always follow up with you to ensure you can continue to access support if you need it.

Support for students in UCL accommodation

For students staying in accommodation managed by UCL, we also:

  • provide 24-hour on-site support, seven days a week
  • support students with additional needs and medical conditions
  • help students access medication and other essential services if required, free of charge
  • make sure that all students know what to do if they or people they live with become unwell
  • invite you to join Flourish, UCL’s virtual community programme, where you can take part in activities online, meet fellow residents, and support your wellbeing

We are also working closely with intercollegiate halls to support the UCL students staying there.
