Between Terms 1 and 2, UCL will be closed from 5.30pm on Friday 20 December 2024 to 9.00am on Thursday 2 January 2025. You still have access to plenty of support during this period.

Disability and Mental Health support
- UCL 24/7 Student Support Line
UCL 24/7 Student Support Line is a free, confidential wellbeing service available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

- Appointments with Disability and Mental Health Advisers
Disability and Neurodiversity and Mental Health and Wellbeing will be closed for pre-booked and same day appointments from 5.30pm on Friday 20 December 2024 to 9.00am on Thursday 2 January 2025. The team will be operating on a limited rota during the closure.
During this time, the team will be checking and responding to urgent enquiries sent via askUCL. We will not have a phone service or any in-person services.
Due to reduced capacity, it may take us slightly longer than usual to respond to enquiries. To inform us of a student of concern, please complete our student of concern form.
- Student Space
Whatever you may be feeling or experiencing, help and guidance is available. Explore a range of trusted information, services and tools to help you with the challenges of student life.
Student Space offer access to dedicated support services for students, by phone or text. The information and tools they provide will help you find the support available at UCL. Student Space is run by Student Minds, the UK’s student mental health charity. It has been developed collaboratively with services, higher education professionals, researchers and students to complement the existing services available to students.
- External and emergency support
The Samaritans can be contacted in the UK on 116 123 at any time and everything discussed is confidential. You can find similar listening and support services wherever you are in the world through the Befrienders Worldwide network.

In an emergency, including a mental health crisis always phone 999 (or equivalent number overseas) or make your way to the accident and emergency (A&E) department at your local hospital. You can find the closest A&E to your location by using the NHS A&E Finder and putting in your postcode.
- UCLH is the closest A&E to the UCL Bloomsbury campus.
- The Homerton Hospital, the Royal London Hospital or Whipps Cross Hospital are the closest to UCL East.
For the UCL Bloomsbury campus, or if you are in Camden or Islington boroughs, you can visit the Camden Crisis Sanctuary or call them at 07825 165464. You can also call the Camden 24-hour Mental Health Crisis Line on 020 3317 6333 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
UCL East campus is covered by the Newham Mental Health Crisis Line, and their 24/7 support line is 0800 073 0066. For other locations, find your local urgent mental health helpline via the NHS Finder and putting in your postcode.
Facilities and support on campus
- UCL halls
If you are staying in UCL halls over the closure period, you will have access to the same support as usual from your team of Student Residence Advisers (SRAs). Someone from the team will be available throughout this time if you need assistance.
In an emergency, contact the UCL Security Control Room on +44 (0)20 7679 3333 or UCL ext 33333 on an internal phone. Alternatively, use the SafeZone app (press the blue button for Security). Security are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
For hall events and activities, keep an eye out for posters in your hall, speak to your SRAs or visit the Flourish calendar.
- Library services
The Student Centre will remain open 24/7 throughout the break. You can continue to access a wide range of online resources 24/7, and view the Library opening hours.

- Bloomsbury Fitness
Bloomsbury Fitness is UCL's on-campus gym. Visit their website for up-to-date opening hours.
To support your mental and physical health, join in with free Project Active sessions running through Students’ Union UCL.
- Security
Security officers will continue to be present on campus 24 hours a day throughout the closure period. Please speak to them for any security-related issues.

- Food and drink
During the break, no food or drink outlets will be open on campus. Find information on Students' Union UCL spaces, including their opening hours and menus.

Health care
- GP support
GP surgeries may be operating in different hours over the closure period. Please check with your local surgery if you are unsure.
For UK students returning home for the break, remember that you may need to complete a temporary resident form to book an appointment with your local GP.
Other support and services
- Counselling Services
Counselling Services will be closed during the break. Please note that the Counselling Services registration form will be closed from 5.30pm on Friday 20 December 2024 to 9.00am on Thursday 2 January 2025.

- Study Abroad
If you are a student currently studying abroad, and you require emergency assistance, please contact your travel insurance provider on the emergency number +44 (0)1273 456 463.
If you will be staying in your placement over all or part of the closure period, don’t forget that you can contact the Global Student Assistance Programme for advice. The service, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, provides independent, impartial support and guidance on a wide variety of legal, financial and personal matters.
- askUCL
Staff in the Student Support and Enquiries team will continue to respond to enquiries submitted through askUCL during the break. Please note, however, that this will be at reduced capacity, so it may take slightly longer than usual to receive a reply.

- Faith support
The UCL Chaplain and Interfaith Adviser, Rev Reid Humble, can be reached until Friday 20 December 2025. He has limited availability throughout the break because it is also Christmas. If you would like to speak to him about any issues surrounding faith or religious belief, you are encouraged to make contact before the closure period begins to make arrangements.
