What I do
Hi, I’m Joe. I am the Student Adviser for Biochemical Engineering and Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) and I am here for you as a key point of contact during the first year of your undergraduate studies. I am available to discuss any wellbeing, support, and student experience matters.

Working within the Student Support and Wellbeing team, I will be hosting a range of events and activities during term time to support your Social bonding, Skills for life and Wellbeing at university. - Term 1: September - December 2024
Meet Your Student Adviser/Meet Your Classmates - hosted by your Student Adviser - Tuesday 10th September, 10am-12pm and Tuesday 17th September, 1pm-3pm.
Come along to meet Joe, your Student Adviser and your new classmates in one of our online ice-breaker sessions!
Find out a little bit more about your Student Adviser, how I can best support you during your first year at university, and the exciting events that will be taking place throughout the year.
After your Student Adviser has had the chance to say hello, you'll also have an opportunity to meet your new classmates. We appreciate starting university can be a nerve-wracking time, so there will be some activities and games to get you all socialising, so you can start the term off already knowing a few friendly faces!
This event is completely free, and a great way to ease your nerves and meet some new faces before you start your course. Can't wait to see you there!

- About Joe
What was your experience of Further/Higher education like?
I first started in 2009 but then withdrew in 2011 as I realised I was not ready for university (it is okay to take your time with this!). Took a year out and worked as a full-time tennis coach and then I reapplied in 2012 at Leeds Beckett on Psychology BSc and graduated in 2015. Through this, I learnt to take my time with things, that I don’t need to rush and I can do things at my own pace and still be successful.
What do you like most about your work as a Student Adviser?
As a student adviser, I take great satisfaction in helping students navigate their academic journey and achieve their goals. I enjoy providing support and guidance, empowering students to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. The most rewarding aspect of my role is witnessing their growth and success.
What's a surprising or interesting fact about yourself?
Most people know I’m very much a countryside kind of person and love nature and being in the fresh air and I always said I could never live in London because it’s too big and too busy. I’m now living my best life in London!
